So build something yourself – and enjoy the satisfaction of a job well done. The Indian Girl Canoe is a great project for the intermediate-level enthusiast. Wood canvas construction was pioneered in Maine; it first appeared commercially in the mid 1870’s, becoming the standard in for canoes. Hull construction is strip planking. Measures 16 x 2 inches. Beam measures 2. 75 inches. Scale is 1 inch to 1 foot.
